There's a huge difference between Roman State Religion with it's demigod, virgin birth and blood sacrifice rituals, and godlets, renamed as Saints, which supplicants could make offerings to (through the church) for divine intercession, and the teachings of the Essene Yeshuah Ben Yusuf.

Jesus miracles are intensively preached in rural and superstitious communities as the major proof of his divinity and why those peoples should do as they are told by Jesus' representative, the Priest.

This worked well for the Roman Church in many places, but was a major reason for their failure to convert Hindus in significant numbers. The Hindu view is that the exhibition of a master's Gifts (siddhis), the display of miracles, indicates a spiritual immaturity. Emphasis of these abilities is an indicator of falsity. The miraculous doesn't impress India easily, they've had thousands of failed students making a living from "magical" tricks they learned in training.

These statements could shock many Christian, but a reading of Jesus on the subject makes it clear that he was in no way shallow or insincere.

Jesus, when he healed, repeatedly asked his disciples and those he healed not to brag about it. He even told one man to go to the temple and make the prescribed offering (sacrifice) for his healing and attribute the healing to that action. It's amazing how this sentiment was not passed on into the religion founded in his name.

Jesus and the money changers.

Amazing too, that the Christian world happily does business with banks while the Moslem world still resists money-at-interest in accordance with the Koran. After all, the one on record as being violently angry with the money lenders was Jesus, not Mohammed, and it's the only recorded use of violence by Jesus. The one thing that could get their master enraged is not something Christians should be so comfortable with, surely. We're not talking a "human" breakdown here, Jesus didn't strip his m**er. (Sorry world, South Africans will understand this expression.) He sat down, so the story goes and plaited him a whip first. It was considered and conscious anger. Worth paying attention to, especially if you're a disciple or devotee.

If anyone knows of a similar incident in Mohammed's life, please let me know.
